The BSF has said that Pakistan sent more than 500 drones across the border during Operation Sindoor. A senior official shared that this surge followed India’s announcement of retribution for the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26.
Emphasising the crucial role played by BSF’s women personnel, BSF Inspector General Abhishek Pathak said that over 800 women border guards were deployed in Gujarat, forming a significant portion of the forces on the ground. These women served at the forefront, stationed at Border Outposts (BOPs) throughout the operation. IG Pathak specifically recognised Assistant Commandant Amandip and Assistant Commandant Niti Yadav for their exemplary leadership and commitment in some of the most challenging areas, effectively maintaining border security within their respective commands.
BSF units across the border sectors were placed on high alert. Counter-drone systems were activated and linked to the larger air defence network. Most drone sightings and seizures were near Punjab. These drones were used for smuggling weapons and drugs. Over 70 were shot down up until April.
Each drone is now forensically analysed to track its route. Anti-drone systems can jam radio signals and shoot drones down if needed. Labs in Delhi and Punjab assist in analysis. The BSF continues to boost patrols and respond to ceasefire violations by Pakistan, especially along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir.
